most asked questions. Please note that Star Truck
Driving School offers a complete training program.
Classes include approximately forty hours of classroom
and the remainder of the time is truck time. A
full program enables one to acquire your permit,
vehicle inspection (pretrip), backing skills,
and road test. Star supplies all insurance and
vehicles which includes the truck for testing.
All vehicle tests are performed at your attending
School’s location by an examiner from the Secretary
of State. Upon successful completion of your classes
and tests with the Secretary of State, a training
certificate and license are issued.
How long has Star Truck Driving School been in
business?
Star Truck Driving School opened in April of 1992.
What
is a permit?
A permit is a series of written tests which Star
prepares you for.
What
kind of license can I get?
Star trains for Class A and B C.D.L.’s
What
is the difference between the A and B license?
Class A allows you to drive a tractor/trailer
combination vehicle and a class B enables you
to drive a Straight truck.
Do I have to have an Illinois license?
No, however you must reside in Illinois and be
able to obtain a permit from the Secretary of
State.
What
do I need if I want to come to School?
You will need a permit, D.O.T. Physical, and a
driving record from the Secretary of State. Star
will guide you through this process step by step.
What
is a D.O.T. Physical?
It is a physical that is required by
federal law, which sets the standards for all
driver's.
How
long does it take to complete the program?
It varies depending on which program you choose.
Most classes take four weeks, however in some
instances you may be done in as little a two weeks.
What
are the hours?
Training hours are from 7:00 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.
Note: Office hours are generally 9:00 a.m. – 5:00
p.m. Monday through Friday. Saturday’s are 9:00
a.m. – 1:00 p.m. Please call for the office hours
for the location you wish to attend.
Do you have weekend classes?
Yes, both Saturday and Sunday.
Can
I attend School on a part-time basis?
Usually Star can accommodate your schedule.
What
happens if I fail?
Star Truck Driving School gives you three chances
to pass your test. Upon three failures, the Secretary
of State rules are that you must wait thirty (30)
days to re-test. At that time, Star Truck Driving
School will re-evaluate the student to see what
needs must be met in order for the student to
pass. This may require additional training and
fees to the student.
